SOLHEIM CUP PLAYERS TO SWING WITH NIPPON SHAFT

SCHAUMBURG, Illinois (August 19, 2009) – Fourteen of the 24 players competing in this week's Solheim Cup matches at Rich Harvest Farms outside Chicago will be using lightweight Nippon Shaft steel shafts in their irons.

Five U.S. and nine Europeans players will use Nippon Shafts. Practice rounds run through Thursday with the three-day event commencing on Friday and concluding Sunday.

"Nippon Shaft is proud that members of both the U.S. and European Solheim Cup teams have chosen to rely on the precision and feel of Nippon Shaft during the most exciting team match play event in women's golf," said Hiro Fukuda, head of North American sales for Nippon Shaft.

The most popular shaft among the players is the N.S. Pro 950GH, the revolutionary 95-gram steel shaft that propelled Nippon Shaft into the world’s elite group of shaft manufacturers.

Nine of the players – three Americans and six Europeans – are playing the 950GH, which the first sub-100 gram steel shaft that maintained the consistency of traditional steel shafts that weighed approximately 125 grams. The lighter shaft enabled players to increase their swing speeds, and hence their distance; the stability of the shaft helped maintain accuracy.

Second most popular is the N.S. Pro 850GH, an 85-gram shaft. Two players – one from the U.S. and one from Europe – will be using the 850.

One player – a European – will be using the N.S. Pro 750GH, a shaft that weighs in at only 75 grams. Another European player will play the new N.S. Pro V90.

At least five of the top six finishers at the recent Ricoh Women's British Open, including the champion, played Nippon Shaft products in their irons at Royal Lytham & St. Anne's Golf Club. Earlier this summer, Nippon Shaft congratulated the winner of this year's European Open after he used steel Nippon Shaft products in his TaylorMade Tour Preferred irons throughout the 72-hole tournament.
